Riding tram 28



Riding tram 28
Cost: 1,5€

The tram 28 is one of the touristy icons of Lisbon. The one that appears in all paintings and is used by all tourists.
It goes through many small and narrow streets in the old town.
We are going to experience this ride from end-t-end; From its stating station, until the last one.

We are going to meet in exit of metro station Rato, walk for 20 minutes to Cemitério dos Prazeres and take the (empty) tram 28 from there.
We will arrive at the final stop around 11:45.
After the journey we can go for some drinks around the area.
In order to take the tram, you need to have your Lisbon Monthly Transportation Card, or your Zapping card charge with some money.
It is also possible to buy a ticket from the driver but that costs the double of the price.
It is possible to get/charge the Zapping card at the meeting point.


I will be in the western exist of the Rato [yellow line] wearing a red cap. It should be easy to find me.

Hike in Sintra


Hike in Sintra
Cost: 13,70 € [Train 3,70 + 10 Organization]
Meeting Point: Rossio Train Station

This time we are going to explore Sintra Natural Parque.
We are going make an exploration hike in the beautiful mountain of Sintra.
We will go up the hill and pass in front of some of the major landmarks of the region, like the Pena Palace and Moorish Castle.
From the top, we are going to be able to see the ocean, Cascais, Costa da Caparica and a beat of Lisbon.

We are going to get there by train, and come back in the same way. [+- 40 min. one way]
Our walk will take us about 3 hours, with several stops on the way; we are going to walk for about 6 kms.
I am expecting to be back in Lisbon around 19:30.
I will charge 10 € per person for this trip.

Bring water and comfortable shoes.
Some snaks/ sandwishs would be also a good idea.

We will meet right inside the main entrance of Rossio Train station [metro Rossio or Restauradores] , next to an exchange house.
I will be wearing a red cap.
Make sure that you bring you Zapping card charged, otherwise please arrive some minutes ahead.

Dinner in Oriente

We are going for dinner in the Shopping center Vasco da Gama
[metro station “Oriente” in the red line].
It is a very popular shopping center, which has many restaurants in the top floor.
Those restaurants are usually very busy during the day, not but so much in the evening.

Tiles Museum has a large collection of old tiles.
We are going to visit in the beginning of March.

Visiting Carriages Museum

Visiting Carriages Museum
Cost: free [or 3,70 € for the train if you don’t have the Lisbon monthly transportation pass]
Meeting point: Cais do Sodré's Train station.
Time: 10 am.

Carriages National Museum stores many royal and civil carriages that have been used along the centuries in Portugal since the XVII century.
There we can see the some of the golden carriages that the A Portuguese King send to Rome with his diplomacy in the XVIII century, the carriage used by Queen Elizabeth II in his visit to Portugal in the sixties, and the first post carriages used in Portugal.
It is located in Belém and we are going to visit it in the beginning of February.

Weekend in Évora


Évora is a very pleasant town with several UNESCO monuments.

Besides that, the region of Alentejo, which Évora is the mayor city, is also well know for a wide variety of wines. It is also a very calm place where there are no crowded places.
We are going to spent a weekend exploring it!

Cycling in the surroundings. Some parts of old train tracks, now deactivated, have been converted into cycling paths. We are going to rent a bicycle [12 €] and cycle some kms in the countryside; If it rains, we will find out some other alternative activity.

Visiting National Palace of Sintra


On 14th January we are going to visit the National Palace of Sintra

National Palace of Sintra is an old palace where many of the Portuguese king have spent their time. It has been constructed in many steps along the centuries. It was here where the first tiles have been brought to Portugal in the beginning of the XVI century.
We are going to visit National Palace of Sintra with a guided from the palace, only for us. She/he will tell us all about the history hidden behind the monument. The tour will be in english.
We will go to Sintra from Rossio by train on 14th January at 13:45.
The tour will start at 15:30. We will have some time to walk around Sintra before and after visiting the palace. You can meet us directly at the palace if it will be more convenient for you.
We will meet right inside the main entrance of Rossio Train station [metro Rossio or Restauradores] , next to an exchange house.
 
I will be wearing a dark blue cap.

Dinner at Pano de Boca



This time we are going for dinner at the restaurant “Pano de Boca”.
I have never been there but a friend recommend it.

Visiting Lisbon Oceanarium

Lisbon Oceanarium was build for the Expo 98 and it is still one of the biggest in Europe.
We are going to visit it and see all the different kinds of species that live there.

Dinner in Atrium Saldanha

Dinner in Atrium Saldanha,

This time are going for dinner at Atrium Saldanha. This is a good looking and modern small shopping Center.
In the ground floor it has a dining area where we can have dinner with food chosen from several restaurants.
This is a very busy area at lunch time during the working days, but in that evening usually doesn’t have that much people.
I will be in front of the statue of Saldanha, in the middle of the roundabout - after the new renovation, the Saldanha roundabout, doesn’t’ look that much like a roundabout.
This is the statue in the top picture of this event, but you can only see it if you are in the laptop. (This is not visible in the mobile version of the site)
I will be there wearing a dark blue cap.
I haven’t eaten there since years!

Visiting Monastery of Jerónimos

Visiting Monastery of Jerónimos,

Built in XVI century, Monastery of Jerónimos was created to commemorate the Portuguese’s discovery of the world.
We are going to the visit this magnificent place in December.

Dinner in Colombo Shopping



On Tuesday we are going for dinner in Shopping Colombo [metro “Colégio Militar/Luz”, blue line].
It is the second biggest shopping centre in Portugal. It is plenty of options where to spend money.
Anyway … I am going there only for dinner.
We will meet in the ground floor and then goto eat in the top floor where there are many restaurants from where we can choose.
We will meet inside the shopping, in front of the big glob in the picture about (only visible if you are not in a mobile phone). Just walk around or ask for it if you cannot find it.
I will be there wearing a dark blue cap.

Night walk trough Lisbon's viewpoints

Thursday night we are going for a walk trough some of the best Lisbon's viewing Points.
We will walk up and down hill for about 5 km.
On our way, I will tell you short stories about the history of the places that we are crossing.
This trip will take us about 2 hours it will cost 10 euros per person.
Then we will end up having some drinks in viewpoints of Santa Catarina.
We will meet in Praça do Comércio/Trade Square, in front of statue of D. José, in the centre of the square.
I will be wearing a dark blue cap.

Drinks in Bairro Alto

On Tuesday night we are going for some drinks in Bairro Alto.
We will meet in Praça Camões [metro Baixa/Chiado – Blue Line] at 20:45 and then go to the top roof bar “Park”, which is 5 minutes away. A fation place with a wonderful view over Lisbon.

Dinner in Olivais


On Monday we are going for dinner in Olivais. More specifically, in Olivais Shopping - http://www.spacioshopping.pt/
 
Olivais Shopping, nowadays called ‘Spacio’, was one of first Shoppings in Lisbon and it was very popular in the nineties. Nowadays it is out of faction, mostly because other bigger and better located shopping centres have appeared. Note that it even doesn’t has a website in English. :)
Usually it is not very busy and it is plenty  of space which is good for a big group.
We are going there for dinner. It has several restaurants where we can choose all the kinds of food.
We are meeting in front of the shopping entrance which is in street "Cidade de Bissau". You can see it here (pictures are only visible if you are using the desktop version of this site):

Dinner in Mercado da Ribeira

Mercado da Ribeira is an old market where people used to sell all king of grocery good. It is still used for that purpose, but it has been renovated and is now a tourist spot – now called Timeout
It is a place where you can buy several kinds of traditional produtes.
It also gathers several restaurants.
We are going to explore it on 6th of November.

We will meet meet at the train/metro Station Cais do Sodré and go there for dinner.

Dinner in Barreiro

This time we are going to the far wild other side of the river – to Barreiro.
We will get there by boat from Terreiro do Paço (metro's blue line).It takes about 20 minutes to get there.
We will have a dinner and check some local bars around there. Then we will take the boat back to Lisbon. The last one departures from Barreiro at 1:30 am.

I will be in front of boat's ticket office with a blue cap.

Visiting Theatre and Dance Museum

This time we are going to visit Theatre and Dance Museum.
The idea of creating in Lisbon a theatre museum comes since long time ago, however, only recently was possible to make it true.
The museum opened in 1985 and it has today around 300 000 pieces from the most diverse costumes. Lest go to see them and also get to know more about the evolution of arts in Portugal, specially along the last century.

The place as also a very beautiful garden behind which it worsted to visit.
